I think that has been more than a month since I came back from India and I still can’t find my words to describe how magnificent this country is… If you already saw Part I and Part II on the blog you know how much it touched me… But then I didn't even tell you about Taj Mahal yet… Taj Mahal is one of the most breathtaking and impressive places I’ve ever seen. Once you enter the premises and see the Taj for the first time you get blown away, that’s how mesmerizing and truly out of this world that place is. I still fill the chills on my body from that first glance of it.
I cannot describe it, simply because words does not do justice to it’s beauty and magic. So I am just going to tell you its extraordinary story… A story, that although ended back in 1631, continues to live on in the form of Taj and is considered a living example of eternal love… This is the story of a heartbroken emperor, Shah Jehan, who built the complex for his beloved wife, Arjumand Banu Begum. He loved her at first sight. And when they got married, he bestowed her with the title of Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the “Jewel of the Palace”. In 1631, when Mumtaz was giving birth to their 14th child, she endured severe complications and the emperor rushed to her side. When he realized she could not be saved, he promised her never to remarry. Instead he built a peerless monument to immortalize their love. After her death, the heartbroken emperor began the construction of Taj Mahal in memory of his beloved. It took 20,000 workers, 1,000 elephants and 22 years to construct it. A few years after completion, Shah Jehan was placed "under house arrest " by his son at Agra fort where he could only gaze across the River at the Taj Mahal. He finally died in her Chambers at Agra fort and his body was placed in a tomb right next to hers so they could be together for eternity….
